Maxwell and Nancy Ellen did not marry. Mary Anna, or Anna, as her family called her, was raised by her grandmother, Martha Jane (Anderson) Keeling.

1880 US Census shows a Garland Anderson, wife Susan and son Macky, born about 1866, which would make him two years younger than Nancy Ellen Keeling.
