Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest
Glacier Peak, 2002!

All photos taken by me.   (Just thought I 'd throw that in)  : )

On June 22, my friend Neil and I went on a highway loop up in the local
mountains hoping to see Glacier Peak, a 10,000+ foot volcano in the Cascade
Peaks. We saw several other mountains and peaks, but missed the big one after
failing to go down a forest service road. D'oh!

But we did see some mighty nice stuff!

We started in Arlington, WA, and circled east along highway 530, then south
and west along Mountain Loop Road. About 15-20 miles was dirt road.

On July 6, my step dad and I went the opposite way on the same route. We
stopped at Big Four Mountain and then went down Forest Road 23 to the end.
Unfortunately, without a hike we didn't get a very good view of Glacier Peak,
but at least I saw part of it. I'm planning to do some hiking in this area
this summer and fall!

Sauk River tributary

This is a tributary to the Sauk River. The mountain on the left is either
Gold Mountain or White Chuck Mountain.

Monte Cristo Lake
This is Monte Cristo Lake (looking west) with a water fall coming
down the bottom part of Twin Peaks. The tree trunk at the bottom is
actually under water.

Monte Cristo Lake
Monte Cristo Lake, standing in the same area but facing south. Now you can
really tell that the tree trunk is under water (lower right of photo). To the
left is Sheep Mountain and in the distance is (I think) Lewis Peak.

Myrtle Lake
Right across the road from Monte Cristo Lake is this pretty scene, Myrtle Lake.

Sperry Peak
Sperry Peak, on Forest Service Road 4065.

Big Four Mountain
Big Four Mountain.

View(?) of Glacier Peak
The view of Glacier Peak from Forest Service Road 23 is mostly cropped
by trees, but it's there if you look closely.

Pretty picture
I'm not sure what mountain this is, but it sure is nicely framed by
these trees, isn't it?
